METAFORM QUICKSTART [MetaForm 1.1]

This tutorial is an online version of the MetaForm quickstart found in the MetaForm user guide. It is intended to get users up and running using MetaForm. Following through this step-by-step guide will allow you to see some of the features in action and get you acquainted with the interface. Using MetaForm’s prop objects, we shall model a simple fountain.

Before you start, please set the Display Units to Poser Native Units in ‘Edit > General Preferences…

Create a base by clicking on the ‘Box’ icon in the MetaForm panel.

Set the Scale parameter to 65% and yScale parameter to 20% to flatten the box. Then set the yTran parameter to 0.020.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24

Box
Next, create a cylinder.

Set the Scale to 50%,
yScale to 20% and
yTran to 0.054 to position it on top of the first box.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24

Cylinder
Now create a cone.

Set the Scale to 35% and
yTran to 0.070.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24.

Cone
Create a cylinder.

Set the Scale to 20%,
yScale to 320% to lengthen it and
yTran to 0.225.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24.

Cylinder
Create another cylinder.

Set the Scale to 40%,
yScale to 40% and
yTrans to 0.330.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24.

Cylinder
Create another cylinder.

Set the Scale to 80%,
yScale to 20% and
yTran to 0.370.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24.

Click either of the Surfacing buttons. You’ll see that the top is flat. We need to make an indentation or bowl in the top for water to sit. De-activate Surfacing again.

Cylinder
Create a sphere. This will be used to make our bowl indentation. We do this by giving it a negative field. Here’s how:

Set the Field Strength to -1. Note the sphere changes from blue to red.
Set the Scale to 50% and the yScale to 50%.
Set yTran to 0.400 to place it on top of the fountain but inside it slightly.

Set the Subdivision Level from 12 to 24.

Click the either of the Surfacing buttons again to view your finished fountain. Surfaced fountain
You can further enhance the fountain by giving it a stone material. A bluish marble effect was used on this one.

In the Material room, select the Default Surface using the prop menu. Apply a material to Layer0 and render it (make sure Surfacing is turned on).

Once you have completed this tutorial, you may want to continue on to the MetaFlow quickstart, which will show you how to add water to your fountain.

To learn how to create a Poser prop from the generated MetaForm Surface prop, click here. A fountain prop object is required for the MetaFlow quickstart tutorial. You can either make it yourself or download it - but where's the fun in that?
